End of Term Letter from the Headteacher

Thank you for all your support this term.  It has been another busy term and there have been a wide range of events taking place, including fund-raising, spring fair, Sport’s Relief activities, competitions and numerous sporting events. We say good bye to the dark, cold mornings and look forward to the warmer, longer days of spring.

Our Year 11 students have been very busy working hard to prepare for their GCSEs. School has been buzzing during the day, evenings and weekends throughout this term, with Year 11 students attending many extra sessions. We would like to wish all of our students in Year 11, the very best of luck in their forthcoming examinations.

We wish to say a massive thank you to all of our students and families who recently donated to the charitable ventures we have supported.  We are absolutely delighted pleased to report that we contributed over £4000 towards various charities including: The Royal British Legion, East Lancashire Hospice, Northern Cleft Foundation and Children in Need.

We are also really pleased with students’ reading successes in Year 7 and Year 8, who have read regularly each morning in school. Our super stars are Zara Patel who has read over 2-Million words, closely followed by Mustafa Zahid, who has read just under 2-Millions words and Dorian Oszczeda who has read over 1-million words; all of them have passed the relevant tests to confirm this with flying colours. Reading is a regular feature at the start of the day here at BCHS, for all of our Year 7, 8 and 9 students.

Additionally, we need to say congratulations to our Year 8 who qualified for the semi-final of Blackburn with Darwen School’s football tournament and our year 10 boys who were the runners up.  Girls and boys cricket and rounders will commence after school and lunch-times after Easter.  Please keep an eye on the PE notice-board.

Sadly at the end of his term, we say good bye to three members of staff, Mrs C Connell, Teacher of Math, Mr J Connell, Teacher of Boys PE who are moving on to pastures new. We wish them the very best in their new roles. We also wish Mrs J Eddleston from the school office a very happy retirement.

We pride ourselves on being a community school. Every week we welcome over 300-students into BCHS to take part in a range of activities and each evening the school is still busy with a range of sporting activities for the local community.

I would like to say ‘thank you’ to all of our parents and carers for helping us to continue to improve high attendance. Over 50% of our students have had 100% attendance this half-term.

We welcome students back to school on Monday 11th April 2016, at 8.30am.
