Writing Workshop with Dave Smith

Dave Smith writing workshop

Year 10 and 11 were lucky enough to participate in a writing workshop with writer and stand-up comedian, Dave Smith.

As a comedian, Dave has worked with the likes of Peter Kay and Michael McIntyre. He made his debut at the Montreal Comedy Festival, becoming a regular at the Comedy Store, Jongleurs and major clubs all over the country. He has toured Ireland, performed in Hong Kong and at the Groningen Comedy Festival in Holland.  Appearing on many TV shows, writing for and presenting a series of BBC’s EastEnders Revealed, Net.Comedy, The Little Picture Show, and writing for BBC2’s Live Floor Show, Dave was a huge success with our students – encouraging them to use their own experiences in their creative prose.

After appearing on Radio 4’s You and Yours and In Touch, he became a regular on John Peel’s Home Truths, where he wrote and narrated his own column. He has also written for many publications, including The Independent, GQ, Junior, Real, Home Buyer, Slimming, and Mother and Baby. He’s also been a travel writer for The Sunday Times and The Boston Herald (USA). Dave’s experiences, writing non-fiction texts, allowed him to provide valuable hints and tips for our pupils to use in their transactional writing.

Dave has been visiting schools all over the world for eight years now, running humour-writing workshops and delivering careers and PSHE presentations which have proved hugely popular. The event was a massive success and our students were inspired and motivated to take what they had learnt and get their creative juices flowing!
