This week 26 of our Year 8 students visited The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) in Preston, to take part in a Construction and Architecture workshop.
This was the last of three workshops that were designed to give students ‘Access to the Professions’.
Our students were lucky enough to see the hydraulics lab in action and visit the work spaces where undergraduates students make scale models of buildings, as well as remote control aeroplanes and musical instruments.
The students were challenged to design, cost and build a bridge that met given criteria. They worked together in teams and came up with very different designs in each group.
Feedback from the students included: “I want to be an architect.”, and “I liked seeing the scale models.”
