Blackburn Central High School are holding a Staff Wellbeing Conference on Monday 8th January 2018, from 8:30am to 3:00pm.
We need to be positive and resilient as education staff. It is easy to forget this and can be difficult to achieve. This training is a good reminder to look after ourselves and the benefits, not just for staff but for students too.
Not only will this conference explore the issue of health and wellbeing for educational staff, but it also includes strategies for supporting student wellbeing.
Wellbeing is a sustainable process whereby the health, wellbeing and motivation of staff and students becomes an embedded aspect within school management, and links directly to effectiveness.
Happy healthy staff are more likely to have a positive impact on the learning outcomes of children. Schools need to devise practical strategies to help transform the culture and ethos of the school to ensure staff are motivated and committed, making school life a better experience for students and improving achievement.
Introduction to wellbeing and resilience
This introductory session will set the scene for a day packed full of evidence based strategies to boost individual wellbeing and resilience. The value of mental health and resilience will be explored, and permission given to relax, reflect and learn something new. A Wellness Action Plan will also be distributed to support delegates to create their own self care plan.
Delegates will attend the below seminars on a rolling program delivered by Lancashire Mind’s passionate staff team including dedicated Trainers, Community Development who help local communities thrive and our Wellbeing Coaches, who support people to be happier and healthier.
Positive relationships are the biggest contributing factor to our happiness. This interactive session will explore practical techniques to strengthen close relationships and broaden our networks.
Five ways to wellbeing
Everyone knows about five a day fruit and vegetables, yet less than 40% of people in Lancashire are aware the five ways to wellbeing. Five simple daily actions, evidenced to improve wellbeing. This fun session will explore the five ways and simple ways to embed in the classroom.
The Happiness Advantage
The way we process the outside world predicts 90% of our long-term happiness. Much more than positive thinking, this seminar will explore how we can maintain optimism in challenging times and support others to do the same.
Understanding mental health conditions
Whilst building our resilience is important we also need to know when things get too much. With one of four of us experiencing a mental health condition in any given year this seminar will explore common conditions and what we can do to support ourselves and colleagues.
The seminar will also introduce the Blackburn with Darwen Time to Change Hub which aims to reduce stigma around mental health.
Relaxation and mindfulness introduction
Improved relaxation is linked with a range of physical and mental health benefits. This session will challenge the glorification of business and allow delegates to try out a range of different relaxation techniques to find the one that works for them.
Free refreshments will be provided at brunch and afternoon break, plus free car parking is available on site.
