Students from Blackburn Central High School took part in the Blackburn with Darwen Takeover Event yesterday at King George’s Hall.
The Takeover Challenge is a fun, hugely successful and exciting activity for young people. Organisations across England open their doors to children who take over adult roles. It puts young people into decision-making positions and encourages organisations and businesses to hear their views.
Our students were given the chance to shadow council jobs, get involved in decision-making and offer their opinions on key issues at Blackburn with Darwen Council.
This year’s theme was Mental Health. Three interactive 30 minute workshops were presented by The Wish Centre, Go2, and Lancashire MIND, which allowed students to help shape and design the mental health services they receive.
Our students gained an insight into the adult world and the organisations benefited from a fresh perspective on their work. The Takeover Challenge has grown year on year – children and young people stepped into the shoes of hundreds of high profile figures including: MP’s; mayors; TV presenters; teachers; chief executives; senior police officers and other professionals in all walks of life.
