Miss Tattersall and Mr Chinery accompanied Year 8 students on a private tour of the Adidas SPEZIAL Exhibition in Blackburn’s Cotton House.
The Adidas SPEZIAL exhibition showcased the evolution of Adidas footwear, with 1200 pairs on display. It also saw the launch of a new trainer named after Blackburn, the centre of events during the British Textile Biennial.
The Blackburn SPZL trainer was designed by Darwen-born Gary Aspden. Its green and red colour scheme was inspired by the Red Rose of Lancashire.
A limited edition Nightsafe version of the Blackburn trainer was available. 200 pairs were released featuring the charity’s logo, with all proceeds going to Nightsafe; who help homeless and vulnerable young people in Blackburn and Darwen.
Also featured were many signed trainers from celebrities including Stormzy, Missy Elliott, Noel Gallager, Ian Brown, and Pharrell Williams.
Our students visited other shows that are part of the biennial including Jamie Holman’s commission; ‘Transform and Escape the Dogs’, which tells the story of how Blackburn’s mills were taken over for the famous raves in the 1980s; and ‘Cult, Culture, Subversion’ at Blackburn Cathedral Crypt.
The adidas SPEZIAL exhibition runs until Sunday 20th October as part of the British Textile Biennial, a month-long celebration of East Lancashire’s textile heritage.
