Student Areeba to join Guard of Honour at St Paul’s Cathedral

District Cadet of the Year 2019

St John Ambulance Cadet Areeba will form part of a prestigious Guard of Honour on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral.

Areeba will perform the honour on 22 June 2019 as part of St John’s Day celebrations. These will include a service in the Cathedral and a day of family-friendly activities in nearby Paternoster Square.

The 16-year-old joined the St John Ambulance Blackburn cadets a year ago, and was awarded District Cadet of the Year 2019. Areeba will join cadets from across England to make up the Guard of Honour greeting the Lord Mayor of London.

Areeba said she was looking forward to the charity’s St John’s Day event:

“I’m so excited to be going to St Paul’s to do this.

“I think it’s brilliant and love being in St John because of all the opportunities. I love helping my community and learning things that are relevant to medicine, which I want to do in the future.”

There will be a range of displays in Paternoster Square, starting from 11.30am. Up to two thousand people are expected to attend St John’s Day. Visitors are invited to learn some free first aid and find out more about the charity.

Additional displays will include heritage objects and costumes and an antique and modern ambulance side-by-side.
