Remembrance Day – 8th November 2015

Students with remembrance wreath

Students at BCHS with Crosshill have been taking part in a number of activities in support of Remembrance Day.

Year 9 Progress Groups have been reading stories about World War I, and have been discussing their thoughts and feelings about the war. The students chose to write out words onto parchment that they felt summed up something about war; these words were then used as part of a display, along with poppies the students made, and a heartfelt and beautiful prayer by Samira, a Year 11 student from Syria.

This Sunday 8th November 2015 is a day where as a nation we remember those who lost their lives in two World Wars and in other conflicts.

Therefore, Blackburn Central High School is encouraging members of all communities to join the Royal British Legion and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council at Remembrance Services commemorating the lives of those who perished fighting to protect our country. You can do this by attending one of the following events that are happening in the next week:

Saturday 7th November 2015

Service – 11.00am – Darwen Market Square
A short service will be held outside the Darwen Town Hall. This will be followed by a wreath-laying at the Belgrave Square Boer War Memorial.

Following this service, a parade will form on King William Street, moving at 10.25am to the Corporation Park Gardens of Remembrance for a wreath laying service.
