Students move to Rota System from Tuesday 17th November
16/11/2020

Due to the second national lockdown which is now in place across the whole of England, and further restrictions on working practice for vulnerable staff; our school is facing extreme challenge in ensuring that all classes are adequately staffed on a daily basis.

The school has devised a contingency plan to ensure:

  • Students continue to receive quality education
  • Staff are prepared and are able to produce resources in advance
  • Parents are informed in advance and are able to plan

Contingency Plan

Students will stay home and access remote learning (see below) 1 day a week using a rota system.

In the case of extreme staff shortages we will also ask an additional (reserve) year group to remain home and access remote learning.

This plan may also be suspended should staffing allow full school re-opening. If this is the case parents will be informed in advance via our parent app, letter, text message service and website.

Accessing Remote Learning

Remote learning will take place using Google Classroom, if your child does not have the equipment to access Google Classroom please contact their Pastoral Manager, who will endeavour to provide equipment from school.

We have recently organised for all parents to have access to a special offer for Lenovo Chromebooks, more details are on our website. This is the best way to make sure learning in and out of the school building is seamless and consistent.

Expectations for Remote Learning

A comprehensive guide to Remote Learning and associated policies can be found on the school website.

Students will:

  • Access Google Classroom to retrieve your resources for each lesson (note the resources provided may be allocated to a series of lessons)
  • Access and remain in Google Meet for each of your lessons

Staff will:

  • Ensure resources are uploaded in advance of a lesson/series of lessons
  • Engage the students in ‘live lesson’ where possible**

The School will:

  • Provide a free school meal for all eligible students. Order forms can be completed online and emailed to the catering staff. These can also be picked up at reception.
  • **Provide a tutor or teacher for each remote lesson to engage the students and answer queries.
  • Complete a register of students accessing Google Classroom for each lesson.
  • Report any absences to parents.

Other Information

Your child will not be expected to self-isolate unless they develop any symptoms.

Vulnerable students are expected to attend school as normal, provision will be made for them to access remote learning in the school setting.

If your child is eligible for Free School Meals they can order their lunch through the form below:

If your child is self-isolating and is entitled to free school meals, we are still able to provide a meal for them from our fully operational kitchen. This will be in the form of a 'grab bag' containing a sandwich, drink and snack.

If you require a grab bag for your child, please complete the form below by 9:30am each morning. Free School Meal grab bags will be available for collection each day between 12:00 and 1:20pm at the Community Use Entrance (just past main reception). Bags will be individually labelled with each child's name.

Thank you again for your continued support during this difficult time.

Yours sincerely
