Blackburn Central Students support Nightsafe
24/01/2020

Before Christmas our school has been supported Nightsafe in a number of ways. Nightsafe is a small Blackburn based charity who supports homeless people aged between 16 and 24.

Our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award students volunteered to help Children in Need and DIY SOS: The Big Build at St Silas’ Church.

Teams from DIY SOS, BBC Children in Need, and local volunteers transformed the interior of the building into short-term accommodation for vulnerable 16-18 year old.

Blackburn Central High School have supported Nightsafe for a number of years, so our students were eager to get involved. Unfortunately, being under 18 meant our students couldn’t work on the site itself, but they took it upon themselves to create a unique piece of artwork to be displayed in the building.
Jordan, Maria, Kyle and Owen, along with Mr Donaldson, Miss Leake, and Mrs Sange presented the amazing piece of artwork to Rev Sheelagh Aston, plus Nick Knowles, Gabrielle Blackman, and Mark Millar of DIY SOS.

Mr Donaldson also took part in the Sleep Out at Saint Silas Parish Church, with hundreds of others from the local community. On 6th December they slept rough during the cold winter night to raise funds for the homeless and vulnerable of Blackburn. You can check out Mr Donaldson’s home away from home in the gallery below.

Pastoral Manager, Mrs Allen and her Year 11 students have been hard at work. They spent this half term collecting donations of toiletries and gifts, which they wrapped and delivered to Nightsafe HQ last week.
