We make every effort to ensure our new starters have a smooth transition into secondary school.
Normally prior to their first official day as students we arrange a number of information, taster, and transition events for Year 6 students and their parents or carers, such as a parents' information evening, New Friends Day, Transition Days, and Summer School.
We hope all our new starters will have an enjoyable and rewarding five years at Blackburn Central High School. Should you require any further information, please feel free to contact, Ms Rathore, Year 7 Pastoral Manager, or Mrs Bowker, Assistant Headteacher for Year 7 on 01254 505 700 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Virtual Tour of Blackburn Central High School
Please note: Due to how iPhones force videos into their own player, viewers will need to press the "X" in the top left corner to access the interactive controls after each segment plays. The tour plays as it should on iPads, other mobiles and tables, and PCs, so for the best experience please view with one of these devices.
Welcome to BCHS music video
This piece of music was made for Blackburn Central High School, by Darwen-based Mind-CheckOneTwo, who work with young people in Blackburn with Darwen, to make music, perform, and DJ.
This song was made in January 2020, to celebrate our becoming a School of Sanctuary, which means that all students, whether asylum seeking, refugees or whatever their background, can feel secure, welcomed and safe at our school.
This music was made using samples of our student's voices, in which they welcome new students in their own home languages. We are proud of our multi-cultural school, with nationalities ranging from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe! There are over 30 languages spoken by our students and their families.
How many languages you can hear in this clip?
Transition Resources for Year 6 pupils and their parents
Students who transfer to Blackburn Central High School outside of the normal transition period are paired up with a "buddy". A student who is in the same Progress Group the new starter is assigned to, who shares a timetable, and speaks the same language.
We have found this approach helps to reduce the anxiety and worry that comes from starting at a new school.
