A Parent's Guide to GCSE Results Day

When will my child receive their results?

Your child’s results will be sent in the post, you should receive them on Thursday 12 August. If you have not received them, please contact school.

How can we prepare for results day?

Chat through any worries your child may have, have a look at all of the options available and map out a ‘Plan B’, just in case.
Make a list of useful contacts your child can talk to on results day if they didn’t achieve the grades they had hoped for. Family and friends are a great starting point, there are also charities and services, such as the National Careers Service who offer free and impartial advice.

Whilst it is good to be prepared, it’s also possible to talk too much about results day. In the lead up to results day, try to create a calm environment and distract your child’s nerves with activities.

Parents may not be familiar with the numerical grading system, have a look online at how the numerical grading system compares to the old letter-based system.

How have results been awarded this year?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021’s results have been determined by teachers and then, following quality assurance, results are issued by the exam boards who are accountable for the results. Teachers take evidence-based decisions about the grade they recommend their students be issued. Evidence can include but is not limited to mock exams, classwork and assignments.

Can my child appeal a grade?

If your child feels there has been a mistake, or grading procedures haven’t been followed they may be able to appeal their grade. More information can be found HERE.

Can my child resit an exam?

Usually a student can resit an exam, although there are some instances where this is not possible. To arrange this, you must contact our Exams Officer via info@bchs.co.uk

English and Maths resits are usually organised through your child’s future college or sixth form.

Finally…

Whether your child has received the grades they hoped for or not, be proud and empower them to be proud of themselves.

The past 18 months-or-so have been so unpredictable, full of highs and lows. Your child has come SO far to overcome the circumstances, and the key is now to keep calm, do your research, and continue to excel!
