Something Wicked This Way Comes…
04/02/2020

We hosted the Manchester Actors Company, for the third year running, to perform an adaptation of Macbeth for our Year 10 and 11 students.

The three actors each took on multiple roles, showcasing their fantastic talent, bringing the play to life for our GCSE English Literature students to enjoy.

First performed in 1606, William Shakespeare’s tragedy dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition for the sake of power.

The students watched enraptured as the brave Scottish general, Macbeth, received a prophecy from a trio of witches that he would become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and encouraged by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne.

Macbeth is overcome with guilt and paranoia, and commits more murders to protect himself, he quickly becomes a tyrannical ruler. The consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the dark realms of madness and death.

There were many memorable moments including the chanting of the three witches with some bizarre props, including a baby doll and talking skulls, plus gripping soliloquys from Macbeth and his ill-fated wife, Lady Macbeth.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and it was a fantastic opportunity to support their revision and learning. They also showcased how our inclusive community is respectful and welcoming to visitors. We can’t wait to see the Manchester Actors Company's next performance!
