Many different faiths, schools and community representatives from across Blackburn with Darwen met at Blackburn Town Hall to remember all the victims of genocide, oppression and torture at the Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony.
Imogene, Rehan, Gabriel and Tibor represented Blackburn Central High School at the moving service.
Tibor, a Year 11 student, movingly spoke of his great grandmother, Juliana, who survived one of the death camps. He said “My great-grandmother, Juliana Nikolics survived the death camps. She was Hungarian. She was a strong, beautiful woman, and she later faced her tormentors in a war court. She went on to have a family and children of her own. None of us have forgotten her bravery and never will. She is always in my thoughts and I am very proud of her.”
At the end of the service, candles were lit in remembrance of those who lost their lives.
