Students at Blackburn Central High School celebrated Saint George, the Patron Saint of England, with an outstanding afternoon tea.
Seventy students, who had earned at least 250 achievement points to reach VIP status, were invited along with Chair of Governors Dot Thomson, Capita HR consultant Claire Williams, Headteacher Diane Atkinson, and Deputy Head Teachers Shanaz Hussain and Simon Braithwaite.
The attendees enjoyed readings of St George themed poetry by BCHS students, followed by the story of Saint George, shared by Derek Estill from the Interfaith Forum.
Following this the students and their guests enjoyed a feast of Saint George, consisting of Victoria spongecake, sandwiches, trifle, and lashings of orange squash, against the backdrop of classical music written by English composers.
The feedback from students was great: “I never realised that St George wasn’t English – I learned so much about him during the presentation.”
“I really enjoyed the afternoon tea – I’m glad I worked hard to achieve so many achievement points.”
