Leading up to Christmas the EAL students at Blackburn Central High School have been learning about British culture and traditions.
The students have been watching famous Christmas advertisements to develop their language and vocabulary and completed writing tasks. One of our students suggested after watching ‘Mog’s Christmas Calamity’, and that it would be nice if we could share our Christmas with people who are less fortunate or forgotten about at this time of year.
Acting on this Miss Davies contacted her sister who is Matron at Old Gates Care Home and arranged a Christmas themed visit to the nursing home’s residents.
The EAL students made and sold treat bags and set up a tuck shop, encouraging others to get into the Christmas spirit and raising £150, which they used to put together toiletry bags and care packages for the residents at the Old Gates Care Home. The Christmas clad students delivered their gifts to the residents the weekend before Christmas.
