On Wednesday 18th October, the Blackburn Central High School teaching staff attended a breakfast launch for Literacy 2017 – 2018.
The focus this year will turn to reading skills for all our students as well as maintaining high standards in writing and spelling, punctuation and grammar developed in previous years.
Literacy is a key life skill and is the foundation for 21st Century society.
Over the course of the year, students will be introduced to a series of reading strategies to help them read texts above their reading age and staff will receive further training in empowering students to develop the reading skills required for success in their individual subject areas.
Later in the year, there will be an opportunity for parents to discuss ways they can support reading at home.
Congratulations to Mrs Bowker who won the prize for solving a literacy riddle as part of the meeting.
