Pop band Beyond Recall, named one of the Freshest Bands of 2017 by DJ Edith Bowman, performed for Year 7 students at Blackburn Central High School.
After treating our Year 7 students to live performances of original songs and well-known covers, band members Zaid Elgahmi and Josh Willett spoke to the students about PSHE topics including bullying and online safety.
They asked students to consider whether they had been victims or perpetrators of cyber bullying or trolling and discussed what is considered inappropriate behaviour.
They showed students how to protect themselves by not interacting with strangers, blocking and reporting anything that makes them feel uncomfortable and taking screenshots as evidence.
The band based their talk on things they had personally experienced as well as stories they heard through working with charities that support young people.
For example Zaid spoke about being a victim of racism, as a British born Muslim, and how he almost met up with a girl he met through social media to later discover it was a man.
Our students enjoyed the unique and entertaining performance from Beyond Recall, and were empowered to make the right choices in regards to online safety and cyber bullying.
