Asian Media Awards

Students from a Lancashire school got the chance to quiz media stars at a national awards ceremony.

Students from Blackburn Central High School were on the blue carpet and spoke to a range of stars from TV, film and radio at the annual Asian Media Awards held at the Manchester Hilton Deansgate in October.

Student Naazima said, “It was an amazing experience and we really enjoyed ourselves.”

Rumana added, “We enjoyed meeting and talking to the celebrities. It was a good experience.”

The visit came on the back of two special sessions held earlier in the year on the subject of ‘Diversity in the Media’ for school pupils hosted by the University of Salford and the AMA’s at MediaCityUK.

In the most recent panel discussion students spoke to Assistant Producer, BBC Newsround Tashaneish Crawford, BBC Sport’s Kal Sajad, Sophia Slater of Nine Live Media, and ‎Digital Transformation Consultant Mirage Islam.

This session was also attended by students from Marsden Heights Community College.

Earlier in the year the event featured a special Q&A with Tommy Nagra, Head of BBC Religion and Ethics who discussed the documentaries he has produced and talks from Sunny Kang, Assistant Producer at Nine Lives Media; Amber Haque, Broadcast Journalist and Producer and Director Colin Stone.
