Waseem and I got through to the finals of the Reg Johnson Young Chef Competition, which was judged by Nigel Haworth and Paul Heathcote.
“The dish we prepared was a Goosnargh corn fed chicken breast, with chicken and asparagus tortellini, served with a vegetable stock and cream sauce; For desert we made a rhubarb crumble with rose water and rhubarb ice cream.
“The judges loved all of the dishes, but with just a one-point difference we pulled it out of the bag and won the whole competition.
“We received lots of prizes, including trophies for each of us and Blackburn Central High School, Jamie Oliver cook books, vouchers for dining at Northcote, plus a sous vide precision cooking machine for the school.
“Our winning dish will on available at Café Northcote at The National Festival of Making in Blackburn this weekend (12 & 13 May 2018), plus we might be cooking our winning desert on BBC television.”
